MTC Straight Thuggin

Hola, coma estan mis amigos???  Come fue sus navidads????  Ight, i get it, ya'll are white... its fine.  Its refreshing to be able to talk in english anyway because the whole speak your language thing (meaning i have to talk in spanish 24/7) is really annoying sometimes!!!
Ok, i guess i'll start from last saturday, my first pday was awesome, we prepared for the week by using our personal time to get some extra sleep to prepare us to have energy for the rest of the week ;) hahahaha this pdays going to be awesome tho, because we live on main campus were allowed to go down to brighams landing and hangout in the real world for a bit!!!  DP Cheesesteaks here i come!!!! (danny, any way you could hook a brotha up with a good deal at the dp in provo???)  hahahaha its going to be so fantastic to get some real food that digests correctly because this whole mtc thing aint cutting it.   No matter how much or how little you eat you feel bloated for hours... I was just telling my little sister that they need to change the name from MTC to MFC... Missionary Farting Center... Lol, disgusting i know, but we don't really have a choice so we are doing what missionaries need to be pro at doin: "just rolling with it!!!"
So Elder Garner went home, he made up his mind long before he told any of us that he felt the need to go home... Am i mad that he didn't stay?  No!!!! he wasn't happy hear and a huge part of being a missionary is just wanting the best for everyone, including your companions so i'm happy for him that he was able to go home and be happy!!!   It was frustrating however to see how his attitude brought down my entire district... He refused to pray with us, he wouldn't read anhy of the scriptures we had recommended he read and his attitude in general made everyone a little sad.   It was just so hard to watch the kid not even try to make the best out of the situation, but its over with now, and i will not dwell on the past.  Elder garner has his own agency like all the rest of us so if thats the attitude he wants to have in everything he does then good on him!!!
So sunday was actually way cool, i didn't really tell ya'll about brother monson did i??? He's the first councilor in our branch presidency and Thomas S. Monsons nephew... Besides the fact that he's bald and he wears some serious harry potter glasses he looks and talks just like president monson... I'd even go as far to say that on a spiritual level he's probably pretty far up there... How this guy isn't a general authority blows my mind he is seriously spiritually in tune with life!!!  So he taught an awesome lesson on sunday and i got to talk to him a lot one on one... So so incredible... One of the sisters in our district asked for a blessing, she was feeling homesick and wanted to go home... She asked me in particular to give it to her... Ya know, when i opened my call and learned i wasn't going polynesian i was mind blown, but i have found out why!!!  Sister smith, and my companion Elder Maluia are tongan and samoan respectively, and my love for those people is exactly why i am called to serve with them!!! I love them so much and my ability to relate with them on everything is so incredible, putting us three in the same district was defitinitely inspired and for that i am grateful...  So imma be honest, i don't remember a thing that was said during that blessing, the reason why??? Because that blessing didn't come from me.   The holy ghost is real and priesthood power is real ladies and gentleman, it was incredible to see how much better she is after that blessing and i'm so so grateful that i was worthy to be used as a tool in gods hands!!!  What an experience!!!
Monday wasn't anything special really, just another 16 hour day spent in my classroom reading up some serious scripture and some serious spanish!!!   The language by the way is coming along fantastically, ive taught four more lessons all in spanish and i read in spanish every day!!!  THe gift of tongues is so so real and i have faith that when i leave the mtc i will be able to speak and understand more then enough spanish to be an effective misssionary!!!  Tuesday was pretty boring too, we got all excited for the christmas eve devotional we had that night but to be honest with you it wasn't that great... Someone from the seventy came and spoke, and i don't even remember his name it was that bad... haha I wish i was capable of sleeping like all the other 1200 elders in that room but i'm a little big for those seats and so the only sleeping i did during that meeting was done in my day dreams... :(
Christmas was alright, a little boring, but we had an awesome experience later in the day... I'm still pissed i only got 20 minutes to email home so don't get me started!!!  So the first christmas activity they had planned for us was a "celebration"  but basically a glorified talent show, there was some good talents and some bad but by far the most impresssive was this Japanese elders...  This kid and his companion didn't know a lick of english, that much was certain but the power of "magic" and humor overpower the language barrier 11 times out of ten!!!  His companion just played a little jig on the piano for 10 minutes while he did a bunch of magic tricks!!!  This kids magic tricks were incredible, sorry koa but like whole new level!!!  After he was done he got a standing ovation!!!  That was the highlight of my christmas, to see a kid who couldn't hold a conversation with 1 of the 2000 missionaries in attendance overcome that language barrier and bring laughter and joy to every single one of us!!!  The image was so so powerful and probably something i will never ever forget in my life!!!! i'm so happy for that kid, holy cow i wish i could explain better, but i suck at writing... LOL
Elder Bednar came and spoke to us, and his talk was historic to say the least... He didn't plan anything to say to us.  Instead he told us that like elder perry had prophesied a few conferences ago the use of technology was going to become a huge part of how the church comminicates with its members and spread the gospel... He then proceeded to pull out his ipad and he pulled up an app that the church had made specifically for him, he then had helpers pass out 200 cell phones and gave out a number to text our questions to him and he gave out an email for all the other mtcs to ask questions.. .ALl the texts an emails appeared on his ipad and he litterally sat there and held a question and answer session for an hour... Ya know, even when that guy doesn't have a talk prepared he still sounds incredible... He said things that were unprepared and he sounded just as good as he does in conrference.. It was incredible to see how this guy is guided and directed by the spirit.  mayble i'll mail my notes from it home because he said some unbelievabely powerful stuff that i wish everyone in the world would be able to hear, not just missionaries!!!   Afterwards i was one of the few who got to shake his hand and say hello for a few seconds.. He was walking past a group of missionaries and just like christ did he took the time to greet and speak to every single one of us.  He had stuff to do, and it took him over an hour to greet about 100 of us but the fact that he did it anyways really is a testament of how loving these men are... Ya know, hes a lot smaller then i pictured and his presence wasn't nearly as powerful or intimidating like most explain the apostles, but one thing was apparent to me as i talked to him and looked him in the eye, God was with him.
The rest of christmas day was basically nap time in the assembly room... for everyone but me lol we watched a few movies and some dude came and played music for us.   idk i wasn't really paying attention!!! hahaha that night brother monson came and told us all a christmas story, he tells stories litterally the same way president monson does, same tone, same word choice same everything!!! it litterally was so amazing.  It definitely brought us closer together as a district and as a zone!!!!
Scripture of the week D&C 122:7, 9...  Background:  God is consoling joseph while hes in liberty jail. I'm and verse 7 reads: "And if thou shouldst be cast into the pit, or into the hands of murderers, and the sentence of death passed upon thee; if thou be cast into the deep; if the billowing surge conspire against thee; if the fierce winds become thine enemy; if the heavens gather blackness, and all the elements combine to hedge up the way; and above all, if the very jaws of hell shall gape open the mouth wide after thee, know thou, my son, that all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good."  and verse 9: "therefore, hold on the way, and the priesthood shall remail with thee; for their bounds are set, they cannot pass.  Thy days are known and thy years shall not be numbered less; therfore fear not what man can do, for god shall be with you forever and ever."   As we go throughout this week i want you all to remember that like god said unto joseph, no matter what the trial and no matter what the sacrifice we have to make that it is all part of christs plan for our salvation, so do not fear and do not be sad, but take the hardships in stride and just remember it is all for our good...  I also want you to remember, that just as was promised to joseph it is promised unto us that god will be with us (in the form of his spirit)  forever and ever... Only if we let him...  Keep that in mind and i testify everything will make a little bit more sense, i testify this even in the name of jesus christ amen.

NO AMY IM NOT ROGUE.

I finally got some pictures so i'll throw those up for ya'll!!  Colty, i expect a dope tweet, kylie a sick facebook, bward hit the gram with a picture of that ghetto elda hicks wouldya???  Ight, if ya'll are too dumb to tell the difference bettweeen elder maluia and elder marret then your retarted.. lol hahahaha So grateful to be here with these guys and so grateful for ya'll!!!  Ok, i gotta hot whiz steak with a little franks red hot waiting for me so i gotta blast, but keep them letters coming, keep them sports updates coming, and most of all keep coming to our savior jesus christ!!!   I love you all so so much, until next week!!!

EEEEZZZZY PEEEEZY LEMON SQUUUUUEEEZY‏

Whaddup all my homies???? Get my first pday 4 days after i get into the MtC, so dope am i right??? Ya i know, i'm right. Lol im gonna be completely honest with ya'll... I love it here!!! (no amy, this boy aint rogue) but for real tho i'm really enjoying myself!!! so after i got dropped off i got to talk to my host for awhile as they gave me all my tags, spanish books and sent me on my way to my room... that kid was a serious debbie downer lol, if people are wondering why kids hate it so much here its because the first missionaries they see are borderline suicidal!!! Lol, but im not the type to let him get me down, i just told him to stop being gay and hopped on the bus to the west campus of the mtc (yessssss brennon, my aparetment is right across the street from the big bubbles used to cover some of the sport courts... lol hook a brother up with some cetos or some pizza or something!!! ;) hahhaa so after i got to my side of the mtc campus i met up with my zone leaders elder daniels and elder powers!!! theyre both pretty sick and we've definitely had a lot of fun here!!! (don't worry mom i'm doing my work too, just laughing the entire time) So a ton happpened way soon, after about an hour of =being here i had already told off another elder, ben bussed away, been given atleast ten pounds of books in a language i don't understand and been thrown into an apartement with a couple of elders i didn't know and who had less of a clue what was going on then i did.
The elders in my room aka district are so sick!!!! My campanions name is elder marret, a little awkward and his jokes are a little homo but for the most part we gete along, hey the only thing i care about is if he'll let me pray with me, study with me, and laugh with me.. oh and most of all he juust lets me chill in my g's when we get back to the apartement!!! Score one for the big guy!!!! the other two elders are tight two although idk if ones gonna stay... Elder garner a running back from fremont high and i get along pretty well except for the fact that he's still pretty mad at us for knocking them out of the playoffs last year!!!! Up until that point the only thing i thought about when i thought about the playoffs is how we lost to syracuse and how much i hate them!!!! i never even considered how many teams we had done the same thing too luntil elder garner helped me see the other side of things... What a huge tender mercy, defintely glad to say i am a bingham football player and i am very blessed for that opportunity (even if half the campus secretely hates me for it... lol don't hate cause you aint!!!) hahha elder garners companion is my homeboy!!! Elder maluia!!!! hahahaha not tongan, samoan, but close enough!!!! Cool story, i promised a good friend elder bernard last week that i would look out for his cousin in here if i could, didn't know what mission he's going to or his name!!! turns out he was going in the same day as me, to the same mission and put in the same district!!! Holy freaking cow, if that ish doesn't blow your mind then you need to go and get some jesus (lol at brooke) Elder maluia and i are freakin tight, and although i hope elder garner decides to stay i'd be super pumped for elder maluia to become my companion and elder marret and i and elder maluia would serve in a tricompanionship!!!
So wednesday night i was killlin it in roll play, and then we had language study the next day... Dang, they don't really teach you here, because you don't understand what you teachers are saying because they rarely talk in english... to be honest with you, my teacher hermano peterson is supppppper anal about that rule... i didn't even hear him talk in english until thursday night!!!! anyway, after that first four hour class period of sitting there with my mouth open not understanding a word, i've picked up the language really really well!!! I've already picked up everythinng i forgot from taking spanish and i can even hold a conversation with the natives here already.... The gift is tongues is real, if you don't believe me ask yourself how a bunch of retarted 18 year old kids can pick up another language in such a short period of time!!!! Yea i know, its pretty dope. I'm pretty pumped about it... Thursday night i was called to serve as district leader over 3 other elders and 4 sisters... Pretty cool, were one of the only districts here to have both elders and sisters!!! That calling definitely gave me tons of confidence that this is where i'm supposed to be!!!!
Its kinda hard though, definitely a huge challenge to try and help garner find direction in what he's supposed to do!!! he says hes worthy and i know he has a desire to serve, he just feels like he's not ready and he needs to be somewhere else, luke 1:37 came to mind and i shared it with him "for with god nothing is impossible" and bore my testimony to him that god with provide... I also shared a few scriptures in 2nd nephi chapter two to him, don't remember what verse because the inspiration to read that with him definitely didn't come from me but basically it talked about how theres oppisites in everything and how god made mans bodys with evil in the flesh so that there would be an oppisite to our at one time perfect spirits!!! It then said that satan can dwell in that evil place in our flesh and have pull over us to make us as miserable as he is... Yea he was set on going home, but that scripture was a serious backhand to the face paired with a knee to the balls... He was set on gonig home but now its all up in the air, i have faith that if a mission is what he's supposed to be doing right now then the mission president and all who have some kind of influence over elder garner and most of all the spirit will manifest that truth to him and i do believe he'll accept it but well see...
I gave my first lesson in espanol... a little shaky because i didn't bring notes for the spanish side of things but i killed it when it comes to the doctrine... Teach, testify, commit!!!! I see you bro rascon, so grateful that i attended that mission prep class because i feel so much more prepared, and confident then almost all the other newbies because of it!!!!
Heres the part where i have to admit that my mom told me so, i definitely forgot a bunch of stuff... LAUGH OUT LOUD!!!! hahaha first of all i definitely need an alarm clock, also i would enjoy a bunch of envelopes and i kinda need some money put on my card... please do this quickly i am a helpless soul without you mom!!! also, i dig letters, like real letters, with your handwritting and possibly some food stains if your as fat and as sloppy as myself... A FAT christmas package with some Keke and cetos and lots of other goodies would be graciously accepted, as well as a cd player... what a dumb kid i am... i brought a speaker, i brought cds... and i didn't bring a cd player???? Who freaking does that???? i also feel like that other pair of shoes i've been asking about would be nice, sucks runnin around in snow wearing the pennyloafers... hahahahaha BWARD your a for real ese for that trey burke update, my homie keeping it live over there in the sojo!!!! LOL i think thats all, i will think about you in my prayers, and if any of you have the burning desire to send me something for christmas then i'd strongly recommend following the spirit and hookin an elder up fat with something thatll make me smile, aka pictures are dope, sweets are dope, and sexy paisley ties hold the most value on the mtc trade market, you already know i'm about to own up to my sweet willl jeans and wheel and deal some of my ties for some fresher, sexier, classier, and better ties cuz its like that!!!!
MERRRY CHRISTMAS YAll, i'll say whaddup to a general authority for you guys, or to three cuz we got three boss nasses coming down from the top... hopefully theres lots of food that doesn't suck because so far theres been a serious influx in crappy food.... Special S/O to the fords because that blanket is probably the best thing in the world, and special s/o to the bloxhams for hookin a brother up with some for real necessities that i was too stupid to bring... Ya'll are lifesavers!!! i'll ghet yall some ghetto pictures soon with my zones gang signs tossed up when i get my camera...
I love my family, i love my friends, i love my companions, i love my savior and i love this work... Keep it trill mis amigos!!!

as kesni that fat kid would say: Elda Hicks
oh ya i almost forgot, dear elder .com hook it up with some same day deliver, also scripture of the week, Luke 1:37!!! Read it, accept it, apply it!!!! Peace out ya'll

his farewell talk

-Opening Remarks: Introduce yourself, your mission call, and thank the congregation for coming to church and that this is the opportunity to worship Jesus Christ as our Savior…

On January 31st, 2012 I received an opportunity, and made a decision that would change my life forever.  My dream of playing College football had come true in the form of a Full-Ride Scholarship offer to play football for Brigham Young University…  To say this has been a huge blessing for me and my family would be an understatement, but like all aspects of gods plan there is an opposite in everything.  I had been blessed with this opportunity, but at the same time had been blindsided, because as a 17 year old kid, whose knowledge of the world was very basic and whose testimony of the gospel was weak, I was easy prey for the great deceiver, Lucifer.

What I failed to realize at this time was that everything I had achieved in my life was achieved because God saw fit to give me the strength, the talent, and to surround me with the right people to reach for the stars.  Now, I’m not saying progress is a bad thing, because it is not.  For god wants us all to be happy, and a big part of that is finding purpose in doing the things that we love.  Where I went wrong was that I failed to recognize Gods hand in my happiness, and that is where the seeds of pride were planted in my heart.

If I could go back in time to myself that day, and give myself one piece of advice, I would have the 17 year old version of me read Proverbs 16:18

-          ”Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”

If I had known this at that time I believe I would have taken greater heed at the danger of pride, but I did not.  It did not take long for the Pride to take over my heart, slowly I stopped going to young mens, then I began to sleep in for church, and then I just started skipping church altogether…  My life is the perfect example of the truthfulness of this scripture, for not only did I fall spiritually, but in my every day life as well

Lets Fast Forward to August 16th, 2012.  If one were to look into my life on that day he/she would find that I was at bear lake, being the dumb, arrogant, “all knowing” high school kid I was.  It was a Sunday, and I had been up at Bear Lake celebrating a good friends 18th birthday the best way we knew how, messing around on a couple of Yamaha Jet Ski’s that went way faster then we should’ve been going.  The Friday prior we had just won our season opener football game, and to say I thought I was invincible was an understatement.  I had chosen not to listen to all the warnings about recreational sports during football season and had gone against my gut feeling.  I told myself that all I had to do was be careful and that I would be fine.  We rode all day Saturday and had a blast so when my friend asked If I wanted to go out Sunday morning I didn’t hesitate.  Brothers and sisters, just a small piece of advice, when you have the option to go jet skiing on a Sunday or go to church, always, always, always go to church.

When your as stubborn as I am its really hard to listen to admit that you were wrong and that someone else was right, but when I read that scripture in proverbs I had to agree.  Over 25 stitches in my forehead, a severely injured shoulder, a crippled football season, and a near death experience later I believe it was safe to say that In the height of my pride I had fallen.   It was over a month before I was able to suit up for my football team, and even when I came back I was in a very injured very weakened state of my former self.  We ended up losing in the semi-finals and even today I cannot help but think that if I hadn’t been so arrogant and so selfish that weekend things would’ve finished very differently. I was angry for months, and even angrier when I found out I had to have surgery to repair my left arm. I kept trying to place the blame of my fall but the more I thought about it the more I came to realize that it was all my fault.  For I had failed to give thanks to him that had given me everything, and for this reason almost everything he had given me was almost taken away.

Brothers and sisters, I share this story with the congregation in the hopes that I can better illustrate the dangers of Pride from mine own experiences.  President and Prophet Ezra Taft Benson put it perfectly when he said, “Pride is a damning sin in the true sense of that word.  It limits or stops progression.  The proud are not easily taught, they won’t change their minds to accept the truths because to do so implies they have been wrong…”  He then goes on to say that “Pride adversely affects our relationships-our relationship with God and his servants, husband and wife, parent and child…”  The challenge then is figuring out how we can work to rid ourselves of pride and to become closer to god.

The whole problem, I believe, including the answer is found in Mosiah 3:19

-           ”For the Natural Man is an enemy to god, and has been from the fall of adam, and will be forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticing of the Holy Spirit and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father.”

Now my brothers and sisters, In no way shape or form am I saying that I have I mastered the characteristics pointed out to us in this scripture, and tamed my pride, for it can take lifetimes to achieve these things, but what I am saying is that as I have started to work towards this goal I have found a great happiness which I have never felt before.  My testimony on the principal found in 2nd Nephi 2:13 “if there be no righteousness there be no happiness...”  Has grown tremendously as I have been striving to become Christ-like.   I have seen first-hand how much happier I am as I try to live the gospel, versus when I have not, and it is night and day.

When we live our lives unrighteously we distance ourselves from the holy spirit and in turn lose the ability to feel the love of our savior through it.  At first we may not notice it, but the longer we go without that companionship the less happy we will become!  So brothers and sisters, during this holiday season and, for the rest of my duration in this life I challenge myself, and invite all who seek a better relationship with god to strive for the companionship of the holy ghost every day by working towards perfecting those traits mentioned in Mosiah 3:19 and ultimately being born again.

-Let us take full advantage of the gift of repentance so that we may putteth off the natural man and become saints through the atonement of Christ.

-Let us strive to put away our pride, to let go of our stubbornness so that we may become as children; submissive and meek.

-Let us remember to Recognize gods hand in all things, and give thanks, so that we may become humble.

-Let us strive to control our tempers and pray to god that we might obtain patience.

-And most of all, let us give service to our fellow brothers and sisters of god that we may be filled with love.

Brothers and sisters, I understand that these things are not easy, and how hard it is to have the focus and drive to try to do these things daily, but what better time to start then this holiday season when we are constantly surrounded by reminders of our father in heaven and his sacrifice for us!!!

As I have been preparing for my mission I have come to better understand how hard it is to change and to put off our natural man, but as I stand before you today i want to bare witness unto all of you of the happiness and joy that you will find as your strive for these things.  Up until I started my mission papers I would’ve told you that the happiest day of my life was the day my dreams came true and I signed with BYU, but as I’ve come to know god better and as I am working on becoming the man he intends for me to be I have found myself happier then even that day, because the love that I feel from our heavenly father outweighs any other happy thing I can think or experience.  I also, want to share a promise given to us from our heavenly father, through Moroni, so that we may see the result of what will come as we strive to put off our natural man.

“Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love god with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ.”

Brothers and sisters, let us strive to be perfected in Christ.  It will be hard, it will be trying, we may feel lost at times, but do not lose hope for  Christ means to save everyone, even those that have lost their way, for God says  (Ezekial 34:16)

-           “I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away and will bind up that which was broken and strengthen that which was sick…”

Christ does intend to save us and make us happy…  LET HIM!

I have felt very lost at times, but Christ the Shepherd of man never stops tending to his flock and finding his lost sheep.  For me Christ brought me back in the form of some pretty incredible people placed into my life to help me come back to Christ when needed.  It takes a community to raise a child so to my families (yes I have more then one, finefuiaki’s, wards, levers, furses, morleys, geddes, the bloxhams, the durhams, the lunds and of course my own aunts uncles cousins grandparents, to my father, to my sweet little brother, to my strong willed sisters constantly bossing me around)  my friends, teachers, Priesthood leaders, my coaches, teammates, my beautiful mother who gives the best advice, the provides the best shoulder to cry on, and who embodies unconditional love in every way, and most of all my savior who has suffered for my sins so that I might be able to hangout with my big brother in heaven once again. I thank you for the love and the support.  You all have truly shaped me into the man I am today.

-Closing Remarks and testimony.

1 down, 152 more to go!

Keegan is a missionary!

Hi Guys! this is Keegan's older sister Kylie. Welp, we did it! After a whirlwind couple of days, we finally dropped Keegan off at the MTC this afternoon. IT was almost surreal. we've been talking about this day since he was little, but one day we woke up, we were all much older, and Keegan is heading off on his mission! its so crazy, but as time went on, we could see how excited he was to begin the work and the service to the people of Mexico city, Mexico. I will be posting his weekly PDay letters here. Im not positive of his mailing address, but until he actually leaves the country i know you can write to him in the MTC. He is serving in the Mexico city, Mexico East mission. I know he would love to receive letters and care packages from all of you! Thanks Guys!!!!!
